Christchurch acoustic duo Jed & Hera release new single Issues
Jed & Hera, a musical duo described as ‘Street Folk’, have been creating some of Christchurch’s best music together for a little over a year. The two collaborated for the first time in September 2011 whilst Hera was on tour with Jed´s other musical project, Christchurch band ‘House of Mountain’. The song “Issues” was the first song the duo wrote together having ‘jammed’ the song in the afternoon and performed it that night in concert, they then continued to captivate audiences around New Zealand for the rest of the 50 date tour with tremendous success. From these humble beginnings the duo have now become one of the most promising musical enterprises to come out of post quake Christchurch.
A ‘Jed & Hera’ concert is filled with uplifting yet bittersweet songs; a crafted performance that is charming yet not without its dark moments; and a pleasure on the ears with clever lyricism mixed with beautiful melodies and vocal harmonies. Jed & Hera are rapidly developing an enthusiastic following, many of whom are eagerly awaiting the release of their NZ On Air funded debut song and video clip, “Issues”.
The song is available online at iTunes and Amplifier, with the video being released on youtube at Fledge Films. www.youtube.com/fledgefilms
Fledge Records representative Ben Campbell says “Jed and Hera are one of the most exciting songwriting collaborations in New Zealand, it really is exciting to see such talent emerge from Christchurch. The prolific amount of music and performances these two musicians are producing is crazy.. in a good way.”
Here’s a little more info on the individuals that make up the duo...
Hera (vocals & guitar) is an award-winning musician who calls New Zealand home, but hails from Iceland where she has had a gold-selling record, support slots for Joe Cocker and Nick Cave, and high-rotation radio play. Her music has taken her all around the world, even to festivals such as SXSW in Texas and the immortal Glastonbury festival in the UK. She has most recently been touring her new album with the Live and Loud Heartland tour with House of Mountain, a tour which has taken her all over the South Island... and even to Stewart Island.
Jed Parsons (drums, guitar and BV’s) has been immersing himself in the Christchurch music scene for some time now; he first came into contact with his current musical peers after meeting and recording with Ben Campbell (Zed, Atlas), as a result of his success in Mike Chunn's Play It Strange songwriting competition. Fast-forward a year until now, and you will find him playing drums regularly in his band House of Mountain. House of Mountain play the dual role of being a band in their own right, and being Hera's backing band for her more upbeat numbers. It is thanks to this association that Jed and Hera first discovered their great musical connection.
