We welcome all comers to celebrate a decade of music from local misfits and chancers The Eastern on Saturday December 10th for an outdoor festival style concert at The Tannery in Woolston.

The stage will be in the parking lot right out front of The Brewery and Blue Smoke and alongside food stalls & cold beers there will be hours of family friendly musical entertainment in celebration of New Zealand’s hardest working band.

Live music begins at 3pm and culminates in The Eastern taking the stage at sundown.

Formed in the night sweats of summer in 2006, this year marks ten years .. Averaging over 200 shows a year, The Eastern have performed from Papanui to Portland, Shirley to Switzerland and everywhere in between.

They’ve toured with Steve Earle, the Old Crow Medicine Show and the Lilʼ Band of Gold as well as opening for everyone from Fleetwood Mac to the Jayhawks to Jimmy Barnes to Justin Townes Earle as well as Jim White, Victoria Williams and Vic Chestnut.

With four acclaimed albums (The Eastern, Arrows, Hope & Wire & The Territory), three e.p.’s over 1000 shows and a song that inspired Gaylene Preston’s primetime six part TV drama series about the Christchurch earthquake ‘Hope and Wire’, The Eastern are considered NZ’s hardest working band, gathering converts and friends wherever they or their records land.

The Eastern are a string band that roars like a punk band, that swings like a gospel band, that drinks like a country band, that works like a bar band, that hopes like folk singers, and sings love songs like union songs, and writes union songs like love songs, and wants to slow dance and stand on tables, all at the same time.

Come celebrate.. It’s a birthday after all!
