The Swarm to release Red n' Black Town EP in November

The Swarm

Red n Black Town. Pride, passion and positivity for our province

November 2012 sees the release of the long awaited 'Red n Black Town' EP from Christchurch rockers The Swarm with the title track having already been unleashed on The Audience.co.nz earlier this month.

The Swarm - lead by Christchurch song writers Adam Gallagher and David Thorpe were behind last years successful anthem 'Back The Blacks' released for the rugby season - a track to cheer on the AB's on their way to world domination. The rest as they say...

Red n Black Town is a collection of songs written in and around the time of the Canterbury quakes and those songs been presented at live shows including the opening of the RWC Fanzone in Christchurch plus numerous 'drop in' gigs at quake affected schools in 2011.

The songs were finally laid down in one session to create that "raw, edgy, live feel".  The title track 'Red n Black Town' penned by Gallagher is a song of pride passion and positivity for his province.

"From the ground up we'll rebuild our proud and resilient city.  This is what I was thinking as I wrote this song. I have been amazed as I watched the proud people of our city endure hardship but carry on, supporting and helping each other.  Born and raised in this Red n Black Town I took pride in the way Cantabrians faced so many huge challenges. This inspired me to write about the things I loved and still love about this town and its people".

Two of the 5 tracks were crafted in a temporary house loaned to Thorpe by one of his guitar students after his own house and studio were written off.  "After months of chaos, the seismic activity released some of the creative tension that had been building deep within!"  says Thorpe.

The Swarm describe themselves as 'Hooch Rock'.  With influences as diverse as The Foos, The Pistols, Cash, The Pogues, The Dubliners, Buddy Holly and Motorhead, The Swarm boil up these influences, leave them in the shed to ferment for a while, then they sit back and enjoy the brew with whoever comes to the party.

Gallagher and Thorpe are no strangers to the ChCh music scene, both of them having long associations with Ian Costello's legendary Irish combo The Black Velvet Band, Li'l Chuck & Johnny Ginger and to many more to mention.

The EP's title track 'Red n Black Town' is available as a free download in October on NZ music's excellent voting site theaudience.co.nz - Please take the opportunity.
