The APRA Silver Scroll Top 20 finalists have now been announced. Emerging talent sits alongside some of the most prominent names in New Zealand music in this year’s rich and varied list of songs vying for the coveted award.

The first round of the New Music funding for 2016 has been announced. There were 120 applications this round with 25 New Music Singles selected as part of the new funding scheme.

An exceptional line up of up and coming Christchurch talent is coming to Blue Smoke on Friday August 5th. The show will feature August Fields, The Matty Smith Band and new comers Volts.

Matty Smith brings his moody and soulful song book to the stage for this show complete with a full band. Matty has spent the last 12 months touring his debut record Before You Lay Down and this will be the last opportunity to see him play live before he returns to the studio to start work on his new album.

Stonehurst have just released a brand new single titled “Free Yourself” and to celebrate they will be playing two South Island shows next month. You can catch them in Christchurch at Churchills and at the Factory Bar in Timaru. Supporting Stonehurst on their tour will be Black Fox Trio and RoundUp 2016 winners Smookin’ Voodoo.

Christchurch City Chorus presents a special fundraising show in September to assist the group in taking their performers to participate in an international convention in Las Vegas.

The show will also include; Moorhouse Dancers, Sarah Templeton, Sideline Swing Big Band (2pm show), Flying Dixies Jazz Band (7.30pm show) and Dunedin Harmony Chorus. There will also be performances from Aftershock! Quartet, Key Note Quartet, and High Jinx.

Every time you play your own songs live in public, you’re earning money. Performance Reports tell APRA when, where and what you’ve performed so that they can accurately pay you live performance royalties.

Musicworks Christchurch is presenting a guitar clinic tomorrow night with international player Jack Thammarat. Jack is best known as the winner of Guitar Idol 2009 competition. His Youtube channel has amassed over 31 million views, and has over 89,000 followers.

SXSW Showcasing Artists benefit from career changing exposure and publicity provided by the amazing mix of influential participants who attend SXSW every year. Showcasing at SXSW means performing in one of Austin's famous live music venues for 30,000 industry reps, 3,000 media members, and thousands of fans and fellow musicians from all over the world.

The last Making Tracks funding round has just been completed and the grant recipients announced. The Making Tracks scheme has been a great way for NZ On Air to fund many diverse artists and songs over the last five years. The New Music funding scheme officially starts tomorrow and will aim to offer more flexible support to a range of artists.

For the past month or so Li’l Chuck The One Man Skiffle Machine has been hiding away in the studio recording his long awaited second album.

Li’l Chuck is eager to release these fledgling songs out into the big bad world and Blue Smoke has exclusive opportunity to hear the album live for the very first time - way before it is released!

Late last year, BeatBox rehearsal space in Christchurch launched and hosted a series of intimate gigs which were filmed, recorded and released as BoxFresh Live! We are now very proud to release the next series of gigs, this time featuring all new artists, and a different location over at our neighbour’s place, inside Sawtooth Studios. Our aim with this second instalment is to present a lush production in a beautiful, intimate studio setting. Each time we aim to present something specifically unique for the bands, audiences and those following each BoxFresh Live!

It’s no secret that NZ’s resident pop song-book connoisseur Lawrence Arabia has a penchant for penning earworms at once inspired and unsettling. His 2009 single Apple Pie Bed took out the prestigious APRA Silver Scroll, positioning Mr Arabia (real name James Milne) in the great Kiwi song hall of fame. 

Gareth Thomas (the song writing powerhouse from Goodshirt) is due to release his brand new solo record Fizzy Milk on June 17th, and he's heading out on the road to play a couple of shows in support of it. Gareth will be starting the whirlwind three-stop tour from July 1st in Wellington, visiting Christchurch on July 2nd, and back up home to Auckland on July 8th. Joining Gareth will be support act The Map Room.
