Penny Lane holds Record Store Day in Christchurch

Record Store Day 2012 is happening this Saturday, it's the one day that independently owned record stores come together with artists to celebrate the art of music. Special vinyl and CD releases and various promotional products are made exclusively for the day and hundreds of artists in New Zealand and in various countries across the globe make special appearances and performances.

the Art's Foundation announces Boosted crowd funding

With the support of the Lion Foundation, the Arts Foundation is creating Boosted, a crowdfunding website that will create millions in new funding for the arts.

Crowdfunding is an international phenomenon. The basic premise is that a project (like editing a film, or recording an album) can be funded with the support of many small donations. In the United States, crowdfunding has raised over $80 million for creative projects in just two years.

Battle of the Bands National Championship 2012

Battle of the Bands National Championship is NZ’s largest R18 Band competition; events take place nationwide, allowing bands throughout the country to take part.

The Ragamuffin Roadtrip

Some of the world's hottest reggae artists will embark on the very first Raggamuffin Roadtrip in May and June.

Raggamuffin Roadtrip will kick off on Thursday 31 May in Auckland at the Telstra Clear Event Centre, Manukau, followed by dates in Christchurch, Porirua, Hastings and Rotorua.

Fleur Jack and Katie Thompson met while both kiwi songwriters were crowdfunding for their albums on the website Sellaband. The two have released their respective albums and after many messages between them, they're taking their songs on the road to promote the releases and give you a taste of what they've been working on.

Love Christchurch  A Seismic Selection Of Music From Christchurch

The NZ Music Commission in association with Christchurch Music Industry Trust (CHART) and the REAL NZ Festival have compiled and produced Love Christchurch - a compilation of Canterbury artists to raise funds for building and operating a central rehearsal space  for Christchurch.

New Zealand All-Star Musical Group 'All My Brothers'

‘Find A Way’ - the debut single from New Zealand’s all-star musical outfit All My Brothers - will be released on Monday, April 16 and the band has released a special teaser video clip where fans can see a snippet of the music video prior to its release. 

Including Francis Kora (Kora), Marcus Powell (Blindspott/Blacklist) and Ben Campbell (Zed, Atlas), All My Brothers is a stellar line-up who, with their first release, are throwing their weight behind a worthy cause – tackling binge drinking in young people.

Award winning Cantabrian Phil Garland

Phil Garland will be performing at the Christchurch Folk Music Club on Sunday 15th April at 7.30 pm.

Born and bred Cantabrian, Phil Garland seems to have been around forever and is a highly respected Kiwi folksinger-songwriter and entertainer who has spent a lifetime researching, collecting, writing and performing, during which time he has often been described as A National Living Treasure and New Zealand's foremost and finest heritage balladeer.

There are a lot of misconceptions about what a music manager does so the Annual Music Managers Awards aims to recognise the reality... along with dispelling a few of the myths along the way.

The MMF and PPNZ have extended nominations till Sunday 8 April for music managers that have shown excellence in the following categories.

The Tiny Lies and Marlon Williams support Steve Abel

Steve Abel will play a rare solo set in Lyttleton on 12 April by way of Anointing the newly reopened Wunderbar.

He will be supported by the very fine stark tones of alt-folksters The Tiny Lies who are Charlotte Ivey and Harley Williams.

The night will be splendidly opened by the whiskey soaked country ballads of Marlon Williams of The Unfaithful Ways.

$15 on the doors which will open 7.30 for start-time of 8pm.

 

The countdown is almost over for jazz aficionados, with the start of the New Zealand International Jazz & Blues Festival now just days away.

Tickets have been selling strongly for the Christchurch festival which had to be cancelled last year because of the quakes.

Big Break

Three Christchurch bands have made the top 10 in a competition run by Hauraki to vote in a band to open for INXS when they play Hamilton this month. Pieces Of Molly, The Easy Hearts and Von Voin Strum have all made Hauraki's top picks out of a 'huge number' of entries.
